CHRIST IS RISEN! Yes, this is the greeting which the Apostles received from Saint Mary Magdalene who with the other women disciples (Myrrh Bearers) visited the tomb on Easter Sunday morning and saw the evidence of the Resurrection. This greeting prompted Saint Peter and the Apostles to run to the tomb and see for themselves that life was victorious of death. Those who had witnessed the horror of His crucifixion were now the witnesses to His Holy Resurrection, TRULY HE IS RISEN!
CHRIST IS RISEN-TRULY HE IS RISEN, became the greeting with which the followers of Jesus used to express their Easter faith and was the message which they shared with all the world. Today Christians of the Eastern Churches, both Catholic and Orthodox, will use this greeting when they meet one another during the 50 days of Easter. What a wonderful tradition!
These Easter days remind us that SORROW BECOMES JOY, ALLELUIA!!! I pray that we will spend these wonderful days in thanksgiving to God for sending us His Only Begotten Son, who after suffering greatly for us, rose from the dead so that we might have eternal life.
Next Sunday we celebrate DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY. I invite you to join with me in the “Hour of Mercy” which will take place before the Most Blessed Sacrament and will conclude at 3 o’clock with the praying of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. I ask that you especially pray for blessings upon our new Catholic school in Rockaway which will open next fall, DIVINE MERCY ACADEMY. The Lord is already blessing our new school and granting us many favors. Let us thank Him and ask Him to always stay with us.
