Bible Reflection for the 5th Sunday of Lent
JN 11:1-45
“...When Jesus arrived, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days...”
“...Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.”...”
“...Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die...”
“...Do you believe this?...”
REFLECTION
- This Gospel reading is about resurrection of Lazarus, the Resurrection of Jesus, and our own resurrection.
- If the believer dies, he will live. Death is not the end for one who has faith in Jesus. The believer knows that Jesus declares that He is eternal life of those who believe. Eternal Life is given to those who believe in Jesus. If this is my faith, that Jesus is my life, then I will live forever.
- Lazarus was raised from the dead for a brief time. Jesus was raised forever. Jesus made eternal life possible for all of us through the gift of his life.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, you wept at the tomb of your friend Lazarus and called him forth to life. Call us too from the death of sin to live the risen life you offer. AMEN
