Since 1974, National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. The theme for the National Catholic Schools Week 2017 is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.”
Our Catholic School in Rockaway – DIVINE MERCY ACADEMY is in 100% community of Faith, Knowledge and Service. First of all, Catholic school is community of faith, where we proudly teach students about God. It is very important to form the hearts and souls of children, to introduce them early and often to the love of God and to God’s eternal truths. Our students openly pray and worship God on a daily basis. Our students know their faith and our students have faith in the God who created and redeemed them.
As Catholic we believe that there is no conflict between faith and knowledge. Knowledge is one of the keys to a happy and successful life. Our teachers are dedicated to excellence in the classroom, in helping students to learn many things. Catholic school educates the whole child, mind, spirit and body.
Service is the key to the Christian life, because when Jesus called the disciples, he immediately gave them work to do – fishing for people. Our students learn to serve through a variety of efforts. Our school has a clear mission to be a community of faith, knowledge and service, and it fulfills this mission by educating the whole child to be a faith-filled, knowledgeable disciple of Jesus Christ who puts his or her faith into action by helping others.
I invite us to consider our own call and our own mission. How will we answer? And how will we help the children of our parish to hear and answer the call of the Lord? I invite you to pray for our Catholic school and its children, parents, staff, benefactors and volunteers.
Thank you very much to all who support our school by prayer and donating money. I am grateful beyond words for your sacrifice.
