Bible Reflection
Luke 24,13-35 -Jesus and his disciples on the road to Emmaus-
Prayer: Lord Jesus, send your Spirit to help us to read the Scriptures with the same mind that you read them to the disciples on the way to Emmaus.
Reflection: It is Easter morning, and Jesus leads the two disciples along the slow, painful journey to wisdom. God is inviting us to remember with gratitude times when he led us along a similar journey to the stage where we understood what was happening in our lives.
- Jesus uses the Bible to enlighten life. Jesus uses the Bible and the history of people to enlighten the problem which made the two disciples suffer, and to clarify the situation which they are living.
- Jesus with the Bible helps them to discover the wisdom which already exists in them, and transform the cross, a sign of death, into a sign of life and of hope.
- When we meet Jesus then we have the strength to face the difficulties of life. We get this strength from Jesus the same way that the two disciples on the road to Emmaus did, by reading the Sacred Scriptures of the Bible and in the breaking of the bread at Mass.
- What a difference it makes to have Jesus in our life! With Jesus we have a positive attitude and enjoy life. How wretched our life would be without Jesus. Without Jesus we would be in a mess.
Questions: 1. Both of them say: “We were hoping, but…!” Have you ever seen a situation of discouragement which has led you to say: “I was hoping, but…!”?
2. How do I see the unity and relationship of the Liturgy of the world and the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, be present among us as you were present to your disciples at Emmaus, so that you might open our minds to understand the scriptures and empower us to bear witness to your resurrection. AMEN .
