Today we mark the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time as we gather to celebrate the Lord’s Day. The Scriptural texts for this Sunday speak of wisdom, the spiritual gift which gives us insights which are not given to all; it provides one with right discernment. Wisdom is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit which is conferred at the sacrament of confirmation, along with understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. Wisdom is the gift which is associated with King Solomon of the Old Testament who rightly asked for this gift from God not for his own benefit but for the good of the people of Israel whom he governed. The gift of wisdom allowed Solomon to rule over his people with peace and with trust in God.
Wisdom shows itself not only in the actions of an individual but also within a gathering of the faithful. In recent times we have all witnessed a greater collaboration with our two parishes, Sacred Heart of Jesus and Saint Cecilia. The people of both parishes crossover to worship at Masses, attend faith formation gatherings for adults and children and more. Last month 7 new members to the Saint Cecilia Rosary Society had been inducted from Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish. A gentleman of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish joined the Men’s Society at Saint Cecilia Church. As we know, Sacred Heart is a smaller parish than Saint Cecilia and therefore cannot offer as much as a larger parish, which is understandable. I am happy, as pastor of both Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish and Saint Cecilia Parish, that our two parishes are enthusiastically participating in one another’s events and societies.
I was delighted with a unanimous vote which was taken at the Saint Cecilia Rosary Society meeting this past Saturday to change the name of the society which will now be known as the SACRED HEART OF JESUS AND SAI NT C ECIL IA ROSARY SOCIETY. The wisdom of this change is a sign of the fraternal love between our two parishes.
May God the Holy Spirit continue to enlighten our minds and our hearts so that we may be able to discern His will in the upbuilding of His Kingdom on earth.
